On a cold an blustery Easter Sunday afternoon these two neighbours went into battle in front of a large crowd. Playing with the elements in the first half it was the visitors who started brightly with a point in the opening two minutes from young Ciarán McCafferty following a great run and layoff from full back Brian Gillespie. Harry Harden then fired wide from the right hand wing as Naomh Muire pushed forward trying to make the most of the wind advantage.
Dungloe, moving the ball quickly, opened their account on seven minutes with a point from the lively Adrain Hanlon. The hard working Paul 'The Yank' Boyle fired wide two minutes later as Naomh Muire looked to respond. The visiting defence were alert moments later when they thwarted a certain gaol with Dungloe having to recycle the ball resulting in a wide. Naomh Muire went on the attack again but notched their third wide as the half drew to a close. Then a quickly taken free put in the Dungloe midfielder to slot over an easy score to nudge Dungloe in front by a point. Some good play saw Naomh Muire finish the half stonger and they converted two free to go in at half time one point up. A fairly even match with scores being exchanged left the half time score, Dungloe 0-05 Naomh Muire 0-06. Playing with the breeze and the hill in the second half, the home team leveled things up inside the first three minutes with an Adrian Sweeney free. Owen Grant shot wide for Naomh Muire following a good move up the left hand side. Paul Boyle restored Naomh Muire's lead minutes later with an excellent point from distance. Then the turning point of the game occurred when Naomh Muire had the chance to go two points up only for Shaun Boyle's effort to come back off the post. Dungloe gained possession and broke quickly down the field where they fed Adrian Sweeney who laid it off to the corner forward who slotted it past Shaun Gallagher to push Dungloe two points ahead. Two frees from former county man Sweeney in the 13th and 15th minute extended the home team's lead and he followed this up with a long range point from play to leave five points in it after 17 minutes. Naomh Muire introduced Hugh Martin for Darragh White and Shaun 'The Yank' Boyle for Ciarán McCafferty shortly afterwards as they attempted to freshen things up. Adrian Sweeney, playing at full forward then scored another point from play before Ciarán McGinely replied with a close range free. Naomh Muire enjoyed a spell of possession now but failed to convert it into scores. An off the ball incident in the 23rd minute saw referee Mickey Mulhern issue a straight red card to Dungloe's Adrian Hanlon for striking. Naomh Muire mounted several good attacks as they went in search of gaols. Shaun 'The Yank' fired narrowly wide before a five man move saw Pádraig McCafferty in on gaol but the defence stood firm. Both teams exchanged points at the end as the time ran out. Teams and Scorers: Naomh Muire: 1. Shaun Gallagher, 2. Robert O' Donnell, 3. Brian Gillespie, 4. Daniel Gallgher, 5. Pádraig McCafferty, 6. MacCumhaills, managed this year by former Donegal captain Brendan Dunleavy were expected to make the most of home advantage and a tough pre-season training regime - but it was Naomh Muire who ran out deserving winners despite letting slip a 6 point lead. Having led by 5 points at half time- Naomh Muire pulled further ahead in the second half. However a 15 minute period saw the home side score unanswered points to draw level with 5 minutes left. Although the momentum was now strongly with MacCumhaills - the young Naomh Muire side responding with great character to pull 2 points ahead and ended up winning by a narrow margin although they were the better side by far on the night. This was a strong team performance with everyone on the pitch giving it their all and when it was put to them...they responded like a strong team does. A great start to their league campaign and on to Rosses Park Dungloe on Sunday for a tough away fixture again. Great away support tonight in Ballybofey, so lets get the numbers up to Dungloe on Sunday. Cloich Cheann Fhaola 1-14 Naomh Muire 2-03 Following the Senior match v Naomh Mícheál yesterday....it was the turn of the Minors today (03/03/13) in their League Division 1 match against neighbours Dungloe played in the Banks in great Spring conditions.
Both sides fought hard for early possession and it was the home side who made most of their percentage leading 1-6 to 0-3 at HT. Dungloe came out with much more purpose in the 2nd half and Naomh Muire were reduced to several chances which they couldn't convert allowing the Upper Parish lads to pull it back to 2 points and several near miss opportunities to draw level. Naomh Muire held out and overall were the better side over the hour and collecting two points against the Strong Dungloe Minors was a good start to the season. The season however is only starting so its just another game in a long season with lots of work to do . Naomh Muire 2-11 Fanad Gaels 2-09 Naomh Muire Seniors maintained their Division 2 status following a nail biting and time added on victory over Fanad Gaels in the Banks today. Trailing by 7 points at half time...the lads came out a much more competitive team in the second . Fanad Gaels were impressive and certainly determined to avoid the drop and although it looked like an away win. Naomh Muire kept plugging away and an Owen Grant goal brought it back to a few scores. Then with 2 mins left and a point down Thomas Duffy lofted a huge ball into the square which ended up in the net for a famous goal. It might be seen that the lads rode their luck in this game but they always made sure they stayed in it even when it was going against them. Well done to Danny O Donnell and all the squad and with some big sides coming down, division 2 next year will be a good place to be.....Naomh Muire abú! More photos here...... Click here. (Go raibh maith agat Bríd). The final league game in division two was played yesterday (03/11/12) with Cloich Cheann Fhaola and Naomh Bríd playing out a draw in Falcarragh. This result means that Cloich Cheann Fhaola are safe by a single point and Naomh Bríd are automatically relegated to Division 3. This also means that the playoffs are now straight forward. Naomh Muire will now play Fanad Gaels to see who remains in Division 2 and to see who goes down. Naomh Muire will have home advantage in this game due to their better league position. This game is provisionally fixed for next Sunday (11/11/12) in the Banks (time to be confirmed). At the other end of the table, Malin are automatically promoted while Killybegs and Bundoran will play off for the second promotion place.

Senior : Naomh Muire 0-16 Naomh Bríd 0-06 Reserve: Naomh Muire 6-10 Naomh Bríd 0-04 Seniors Naomh Muire won their last league game this afternoon in a commanding performance against Naomh Brid . This win guarantees at least a play-off to remain in Division two as well as home advantage in that play-off. Depending on next week's result between Naomh Bríd and Cloch Cheann Fhaola, Naomh Muire could yet be playing a play off which would see them achieve Senior Championship football next year. Today's performance shows why few teams like coming to the Banks as Naomh Muire proved too much for the visitors and ran quickly into a 4 point lead. They then added to this going in at half time with a 0-10 to 0-2 lead having dominated. Naomh Bríd enjoyed better possession early in the second half and brought it back to a 6 point gap before the lads got their rhythm back and increased their lead, running out ten point winners in the end. Reserves The reserves showed some great finishing by hammering the Naomh Bríd side in their match and finish the season in a strong upper table position. 21/10/12 Seán Mac Cumhaills 2-11 Naomh Muire 1-11
Naomh Muire seniors went down by a goal in Ballybofey today on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-11. A hard fought physical game where the home team got off to a great start leading by 1-03 to 0-00 after ten minutes. Naomh Muire quickly regrouped and battled hard to leave the half time score 1-06 to 1-04. Indeed in the second half it was the visitors who started the brightest and leveled matters soon after and pushed on to take the lead. With both sides trading points MacCumhaills came back strong and finished that single goal ahead in the end. The win means that MacCumhaills are assured of division 2 football next year whereas Naomh Muire return home next weekend to face Naomh Bríd in a battle for home advantage in the play off. There are a few different scenarios depending on other results but it the playoffs will involve Fanad Gaels, Naomh Bríd, Naomh Muire and possibly even Cloich Cheann Fhaola. In the earlier game the reserves were defeated by a single point. A great effort from all the lads. 06/10/12 Intermediate Reserve Championship Result:
