The under 13s have another tough game when they play high-flying Naomh Conaill in the banks this Saturday morning in their div 1 league game. The game takes place in the banks with a throw-in time of 11am. There will be training on Wednesday evening at 7pm and all players should be in the banks at 10.15 am on Saturday morning.
Well done to Eugene Byrne who represented the club during half-time at the county final on Sunday last. Under 12 players from across the county got the chance to play in MacCumhaill park and entertain the crowd. Eugene managed to score 4 points during his game. Well done.
Naomh Mhuire and Four Masters played out a cracking encounter in the banks on Saturday morning last. Naomh Mhuire put in a good performance against league leaders Four Masters after a couple of poor performances in their 2 previous games. Trailing at half-time by 5 points Naomh Mhuire put in a great 2nd half display and with a bit of luck could have taken the 2 points with the game flowing from end to end. However, the performance is more important than a win and the team performance from all the lads was good on Saturday morning last. Oisin mc Dowell who made his debut out-field had a storming game at corner-back along-side the steady Declan Ward at full-back. Aidan Gillespie and Odhran Rodgers battled bravely at mid-field as did Donnchadh Casey at centre-half forward. Eugene Byrne and Seimi Grant were the scorers in chief for the home side and looked dangerous when they got the ball close to goal.
The seniors and reserves make the relatively short trip (compared to the last two weekends!) to Newtown this Saturday for their penultimate away game of the season. They take on Naomh Colmcille, who having exited the championship this weekend themselves, will be eager to secure two home points in the league.
These teams have now met four times this season and will know a lot about each other, which should make for an interesting contest. Throw for the senior game is at 5:30 pm while the reserves are out first at 4pm. Good luck to both teams. The senior team secured a valuable away point in the league this evening in Clonmany. In a game that ebbed and flowed from start to finish both teams had a chance to win this game. In a tight first half scores were traded with Shaun J Boyle once again on target for the visiting side this week with 3 first half points. With things fairly even in terms of possession Naomh Muire just shaded it by a point at half time leading 0-05 to 0-04 with everything to play for. Urris had a good spell of possession at the beginning of the second half but failed to make it count on the scoreboard, shooting a number of wides to add to their tally in the first half. Ten minutes into the second half the home team were awarded a penalty which they duely converted to leave them two points up. Naomh Muire cut the deficit to the minimum when Owen Grant stormed clear through only to see his rasping shot come off the crossbar and post; the ball broke and Ciaran McGinley slotted over a free which resulted from open play. With time ticking away Naomh Muire were getting more return from their attacking play and soon drew level and pushed on to go two up with only a few minutes left. The next attack saw Urris move the ball quickly down the field and into their inside forwards, creating an overlap that led to a goal to put them one point ahead with less than a minute left. All credit to the visiting side they never gave up and put together another attack which resulted in a 30 meter free. Shaun J Boyle stepped up and made no mistake. Naomh Muire were to launch one final attack but Tom McHugh shot went to the right and wide.
Despite a lot of possession the home team squandered a lot of chances kicking a total of seventeen wides in the end. Naomh Muire were two points up with minutes remaining and levelled it possibly in injury time, so in the end it was a fair result and a massive point for Naomh Muire in their quest for promotion. As many other teams have found this season this is not an easy venue to get points from and so the team and management can feel happy with their work this evening. Played in Clonmany at the home ground of Urris GAA club on a tight narrow field the young reserve team were no match for a strong and physical Carndonagh side. Although Cardonagh enjoyed a lot pf possession in the first half through their abailty to win a large percentage of the breaking ball around the middle the teams went in at half time only seperated by two points. The second half proved a different story with Carndonagh scoring an early goal and pushing on from their to finish the game strongly and advance to the semi-finals.
