A great evening for the club.....first up were the U-16 girls who played Gaoth Dobhair in their first league outing. The final score Gaoth Dobhair 4-04 Naomh Mhuire 7-10.
Then at 7:30 the U-21 lads took on Four Masters in the 1st round of the championship. A great team performance seen them win by a scoreline of Naomh Mhuire 1-14 Four Masters 0-11. The U-16 boys' game started fifteen minutes late in the Division 1 Championship Semi-Final in Dunkineely. The lads played well and won by four points in the end. Reports to follow...... The under 21s will play Four Masters in the u21 A championship in the banks this evening. Throw in time is at 7.30pm. The under 16 boys are also in action in the div 1 championship semi-final against Ardara. The game is in Dunkineely and throw in time is at 7.30pm.
The U-16 girls will have their first outing of the year this evening (12/07/2011) against Gaoth Dobhair in Machaire Gathlan. Throw-in is at 7 p.m.
The seniors and reserves make the long trip to Carndonagh this Saturday for the next series of games in the league. The reserve game has a throw-in time of 5:30 p.m. while the senior game is down for 7 p.m.
The U-16's came out on top this evening in Glentiies where they defeated a strong Kilcar side by six points. The game went to extra time after it finished all square in normal time. An early goal in the first few minutes for the Rosses side proved the spring board for success.
Having lost heavily to Kilcar in the second leg last Monday night....they faced them again this evening in a play off in Glenties. Many club supporters came back from Burt to Glenties as the lads set out to put what was a testing week behind. The match was end to end stuff and point for point throughout.....with a minute left Naomh Mhuire led Kilcar by a point. Kilcar however broke up the field and equalised bringing the match into extra time. There was only one team in extra time as our young lads superior fitness and will to win was too much for the young brave Kilcar side. Two goals in each period of extra time....one a scorcher by young Jack Boyle, Belcruit making his debut at only 14.....saw the Naomh Mhuire side knock out last years County finalists. The boys now play Ardara on Tuesday night in the Div Semi-final in Dunkineely with a throw-in time of 7.30. This was an outstanding victory for Sean Mc Fadden and Gary Boyle's young side. These lads have put in hours of indoor work in the Aislann during the winter as well as great outdoor work and by beating Kilcar in a Div 1 Championship match...they have put down a huge statement of where hard work gets you. Well done lads and Good luck on Tuesday evening. ![]() The senior team suffered their first league defeat this afternoon when they went down by four points to Burt. In what proved to be a scrapy hard fought affair the visting team were first to register a score when Ciaran McGinley converted a fourteen yard free in the opening five minutes. The home team then responded with a point of their own before adding a second a few minutes later. Burt, playing a very defensive system with all bar two players behind the halfway line, were making it very difficult for Naomh Muire to get any rhythm or flow into their game in what was a stop start first half. Burt score a further two points and may indeed have a goal where it not for a miskick from their corner forward. Naomh Muire had half a chance of a goal themselves near the end of the half when Pádraig McCafferty got on the end of a breaking ball but his effort went narrowly wide. Naomh Muire tagged on a score before the end of the half to leave it Burt 0-04 Naomh Mhuire 0-02 in what was a low scoring first half. The second half saw more of the same from the home team with a packed defence coupled with a lot of stoppages and a number of bookings from referee Liam Browne. Burt's full forward scored a few long range points to extend their lead halfway through the second half while Naomh Muire found it difficult to break through the large number of yellow shirts in defence. Possibly the turning point in the game came when Sean the Point who was in the process of being substituted was shown a red card by the referee. Naomh Muire had to re-arrange and playing with 14 men they found themselves chasing the game. A second yellow for Brian Gillespie late on cancelled out any impact John Pidgeon had after coming on. The gap was reduced to two points with time running out but the superior numbers Burt where able to break forward and tag on a few late scores to leave the full time score: Burt 0-10 Naomh Mhuire 0-06. This game typifies this division where nothing is going to be won easy and where teams will take points from one another. There will be tough days like this ahead. We are now halfway through the league and still top of the table a position which if anyone told you, you would hold at the start of the season, you would surely take. This team has good character and the positive nature in which they are approaching this season and each game will serve them well. It's halfway through the season now and let's build on the good work we've done to date. Back to training now and focus on the next game. The reserve team came away with all two points in Burt this afternoon with a six point victory over the home team. Naomh Muire started well with some good play in the opening fifteen minutes but some wayward shooting meant that they only converted two of those chances. The home team had less of the ball but narrowed the margin after about twenty miunutes with a well taken point. Kevin Boyle converted a free before Burt pulled another one back. The visitors then finished out the half stronger to leave the half time score:
HT: Burt 0-02 Naomh Muire 0-04 Naomh Muire upped the pace in the second half and with half back Thomas Devenney pushing forward they started to register more scores. BP Boyle was moved out to the half back line after a nice run forward which resulted in a point for the man wearing number 3 for the afternoon. Kevin Boyle and Darren Gallagher added further points before the home team responded. John Pidgeon was doing well at midfield all day before he was replaced by Seoirse in order to preserve him for the senior team. Micheal Gallagher then replaced the hard working Johnny Gallagher and made an immediate impact winning a number of balls in the full forward line. Pádraig Rua was the final sub to replace Michael McFadden adding further experience to the attack. Naomh Muire finished out the game with some well taken points to leave the final score : FT: Burt 0-06 Naomh Muire 0-12 A good overall team display with an improved performance since the last Big Sunday ahead on the football front.
Seniors and reserves are away in Burt tommorrow Sunday. Although the league approaches its half way stage.....this is the first trip to Inishowen and with 5 of the teams in the league from that part of Donegal......the league will be won ...or lost in Inishowen. This match is a big test for the Seniors who remain unbeaten in the league. Burt are near the bottom of the league but a closer look at their losses shows that they have lost 4 games by very narrow margins....and drawing the remainder. They are particularly hard to beat at home. Naomh Mhuire will have to draw on all of their recent league form...plus a bit more if they are to leave Burt tommorrow night with full points. The lads are training well and are focused on the prize of promotion. Lets hope a good support as usual gets down to Burt for the match. Reserves will be looking to get back to winning ways after losing out to Buncrana in the Banks last week in a below par performance . Reseve match at 1.30pm...Senior game at 3pm. The GAA pitch is along the main road to the left as you approach Burt. Tommorrow night our Under 16s are involved in a Championship play off with rivals Kilcar and this game is in Glenties which means supporters can drive back to Glenties to support the lads. The first match in the Banks saw Naomh Mhuire win by a big score. Last weeks game in Kilcar resulted in a big win for Kilcar but Naomh Mhuire had several players resting and unavailable. This Sunday will see the young lads of Naomh Mhuire attempt to pull off a victory against a Kilcar side who last year got to the County final. The Naomh Mhuire lads have prepared well for this and we wish them all the very best in this play-off. Good luck to all teams Naomh Muire U-21's will play Four Masters at home in the Banks on Tuesday 12h July at 7:30pm. This is the first round of the Championship. If you can please come to the Banks and support the lads on Tuesday.
The under 16s will play Kilcar in a championship play-off in glenties on Sunday evening. A tough game is in store for the boys and a good support will be important as Kilcar will definately have a big support. Throw-in time is at 7pm.
