Result from today's matches in Malin:
Seniors: Malin 1-12 Naomh Muire 0-07 The seniors took a while to get both their stride and pace of the match and the early goal was a blow. Much better second half performance considering the lads were short quite a few. Malin are a strong side especially on their own patch and its a long season ahead. The boys will settle into this division no doubt and will take points off many this year. Naomh Muire: 1. Seán Gallagher 2. Aidi O Gara 3. Tomas Duffy 4. Charlie Doherty 5. Shaun Gallagher 6. Again a poor start by the reserves, who conceded 1-4 in the first ten minutes set the Malin team on the way to victory. We got into the game after this but Malin always had enough to get the victory. If some of our finishing had been better we could have made this a tight game. Score Malin 1-11, Naomh Mhuire 0-03. Naomh Muire: 1. Conor Devenney 2. Sean Duffy 3. B P Boyle 4. Maurice McBride 5. This intermediate championship quarter final goes to a third game following tonight's result in Newtown with the home team prevailing by a single point.
Last night's reserve game proved to be a game of two halves. Buncrana travelled with the bare minimum of players and so the game began as a thriteen aside affair. The visiting team got off the a bright start and raced into an early lead. Buncrana added further points from their impressive number 10 causing all sorts of problems up front. Naomh Muire conceeded two goals before they got any momentum going at all. Following a number of positional switches the home side finally got on top in the final ten minutes of the half where they notched up four points. In the same period they may well have had a penalty and also rattled the crossbar. The half-time score was Naomh Muire 0-04 Buncrana 2-07.
Once again in the second half it was Buncrana who registered the first scores, stretching their lead to eleven points. Scores were exchanged and with around twelve minutes left Naomh Muire found themselves ten points down. Then the comeback started. Johnny Gallagher began to win the breaking ball around the middle of the field and with some smart distribution the points started to fly over. Some nice ball work then saw Darren Gallagher hit the net for the home team. The margin was reduced to six points with around five minutes remaining. Michael Gallagher then rasped the crossbar and buncrana knew that they were going to have to fight hard to hold onto the lead. Francis Gallagher then founf the net to cut the lead to three points with time running out. A further point from Darren Gallagher was to be the final score as time ran out on a brave comeback. Buncana had done enough in the first half to run out winners by two points in the end. An encouraging second half display from this young reserve team and something that they can build on in the lead up the the Intermediate Reserve Championship this August. 1.CONOR DEVENNEY, 2. FRANCIS GALLAGHER,1-2.16.MICHAEL GALLAGHER ![]() Tonight's (02/07/2011) Senior league match at the Banks saw two more points in the bag against a travelling Buncrana. It places our side firmly on top of the table as the only unbeaten side in the county this year and with promotion well on target. It was not as much the victory but rather the manner of the win which will be reflected on tonight in Mullaghderg. This was an outstanding performance by a young side who see the benefits of a hard winter's work and continued committment to the cause coming through. This game wasn't won tonight.....it was won since last Novemeber when following defeat in a league play off...management and players made up their mind that the only way to go up was to work harder than before and that is what they have done. Many seasoned supporters tonight had to think very hard to recall a performance of this quality and Tony Doherty who has seen them all claimed it to be his best ever viewed Naomh Mhuire display in the Banks, praise indeed. Although Ciaran Mc Ginley 3-3 and Shaun the Yank Boyle 0-4 took the honours of the scores, this was a trully exceptional team performance from Sean Gallagher as safe as houses in goals right through a defence which kept County star Ryan Bradley to a point. Midfield won lots of ball and the forwards played football that was straight out of any quality page. Yes it was that good. However medals and throphies are handed out in September, October and November and the prize of promotion is only at the half way stage. Danny O Donnell and his team of mentors will now start pushing on to ensure that this early and mid season form follows through to the finish line. Once again a great support turned out in the Banks tonight. The field looked in brilliant shape , fences painted sparkling white, girls signing up members for Cope rewards points, tea and sandwiches of quality and all of this running alongside a great league win.
